Shoes Without Footprint
One of the negative aspects of fast fashion is the large amount of non-recyclable waste it generates. Non-separable materials of low quality and dubious ingredients outlast the product itself by hundreds of years.
Taking shoes as a reference, and their soles as the most problematic part, this project exemplifies how the life cycles of fashion products and materials can be adjusted. If our consumption habits don’t change and we keep buying short-lived products, shouldn’t the materials be short-lived as well?
With this thought in mind, I started testing bio-plastic foams and rubber-like materials that could replace the long-lasting plastics of the shoe soles. With only a few simple natural ingredients, I achieved numerous qualities, textures, and consistencies, further combinable with other natural waste materials containing cellulose. Not as durable as synthetic plastic they can easily be remelted, reshaped, or decomposed.
